Phoenix Foundation – Jugendjazzorchester Rheinland-Pfalz was founded as „Landesjugendbigband – Rheinland-Pfalz in 1979. The Name „Phoenix Foundation“ exists since April 1998. From 2026 the Phoenix Foundation is the Alumni Projekt of the JugendJazzOrchestra RLP.

The jazz musicians of “Phoenix Foundation” play musical highlights from Jazz, Rock and Pop music. Arrangements from Count Basie, to Gordon Goodwin, Jazz classics and also modern concepts belong to the band book. Musical creativity expands the spectrum: compositions from the members will be arranged and presented by Phoenix Foundation.
During the years the orchestra toured through the USA, Korea, Brazil, South Africa, China, India, Bolivia, Rwanda and performed with international outstanding musicians such as Nils Landgren, Michael Philipp Mossman, Andrea Motis, Steve Fidyk, Peter Weniger, Jiggs Wigham, Ack van Rooyen, Terell Stafford, Wayne Bergeron, Samulnori – Korean Drums, Ramamani and Pe Werner.
Realizing the own cultural frame and influences and yet being open, gather new impulses and learn to refresh them anew. Improve the musical and personal skills and performance. This represents the Phoenix Foundation.

Frank Reichert formed the Phoenix Foundation to a guiding culture during the last 25 years, together with his international jazz network. He is working in staff training since 1993. Beside his work with Phoenix Foundation he is the leader of Coming up, the jazz ensemble of Wilhelm-Hofmann-Gymnasium St. Goarshausen/Rhineland-Palatinate, multiple winner of the „Skoda Jazz Price“ for German youth jazz orchestras. Mr. Reichert was impresario of the Idstein Jazzfestival between 2005 and 2015.
